What bulbs can be planted in the spring?

Most of the flowers I like I won't be able to plant until this fall (we just bought a new house), so I was wondering what I could plant now that will come up during late spring/summer/fall? I am in CT and my front yard gets a lot of sunlight. Thanks!

What bulbs can be planted in the spring?
I would think in your area you will need to wait till after the last frost to plant anything outside. The generally accepted rule is wait to till after Mother's day.

There are some summer bulbs that would work for you. Try gladiolas they grow quite tall and have lovely flowers. Also try some Dahlias bulbs! Dahlia are very varied in variety and height and are quite easy for a new gardener ! Some even grow up to 4 feet. They also do great in pots!

I also really like Zinnias , they are a annual flower though. You can direct sow the seeds in the area and they will come up with very little care! I can't express how lovely.easy, and varied Zinnias are! I like to grow large borders of these ... perhaps with Sunflower along the back row! ----%26gt; just look at these http://www.ozarksgardens.com/pv/dEWVT/12...

Some more great direct sow flowers are Cosmos and Nasturtiums....Both of these are beautiful and grow nicely from seeds. You must try a Morning Glory ! It's a annual vine with blue flowers ! Grows fast and profuse in a sunny spot!

May I suggest going to a website like Springhill nursery or Michigan bulb , or burpee all of these can show you items for

sunny areas !

I would also suggest using annuals for your first year cause you Would not want to commit such a large lovely area until you could really plan what perennials and bulbs you want coming back every year.
Reply:You can do bleeding hearts, Peonies, Elephant ears, Gladiolas, Dahlias, and Cannas

Spring time is also for planting perenials and bushes, so you have a lot of choices there.

Burpee.com and Gurneys.com always has good information that may give you more ideas than I can think of off the top of my head.
Reply:Go ahead and plant anything you like that will grow in your area. Just keep in mind that the flowers produced this year will be smaller than had you planted in the fall.

If I plant things in the spring that are better off being planted in the fall I pinch the flower heads off so they produce better roots. This gives me an abundance of flowers the following spring.
